Coaching Requirements and Information

Interested in being a COACH?

Thank you for showing an interest in helping our children by way of coaching. We cannot survive without help from the parents and supporters.

Now I want to explain that you do not have to be a former pro or college athlete to be a good coach. We also don't expect you to know everything.  This goes for all 3 of our sports.  Although we do strive for our 7th and 8th grade coaches to have had at least 2 years coaching the particular sport they are interested in as it is more competitive at those levels.

All Head Coaches are required to attend a minimum of 2 board meetings a year. All Assistant coaches must attend one.  We supply you with dates and locations for the meetings so no worries there.

The MOST IMPORTANT factor in being a great coach is putting the kids first, it's not all about winning. It's about making this a great experience for the kids and their families alike and creating a lifelong love of the sport.  In the past we have had winning teams that cannot get kids to return the next year because the overall experience was so poor (kids or parents or both), on the flip side we have had teams with no wins have close to 100% retention for the exact opposite reasons.

Head coaches should be a minimum of 21 years of age, and all coaches must submit all of the necessary documentation and training. Before coming into contact with any children, all volunteer coaches must:

  • Complete the Coaching Application at the bottom of this page
  • Complete an eApps online criminal background check application (Protecting God's Children Information below)
  • Attend Virtus Training within 60 days of beginning service (Protecting God's Children Information below)
  • Read and sign the Code of Conduct for Church Personnel (Available in the side bar)
  • Complete the Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System Form – CANTS (Available in the side bar)
  • Complete Mandated Reporter Training (click here)
  • Complete the Concussion Awareness Program by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) (click here)

In addition to the mandatory requirements we also expect our coaches to have:

  • The ability to model Catholic values
  • The ability to articulate and model the school’s Mission and Philosophy and goals of the program
  • The ability to responsibly supervise and instruct the youth in his/her care
  • An understanding of the basics of the sport to be coached
  • The ability to develop the potential, confidence and skills of each athlete
  • The ability to separate winning from the important goals and values of the program
We thank you for your interest and if you have any questions please feel free to contact our Athletic Director or one of the Assistant Directors.
